BC Technical: Affordable Excellence in Nuclear Medicine

Since its inception in 1995, West Jordan, UT-based BC Technical Inc. has earned a solid reputation as a high quality, cost-effective independent provider of service, repair, parts supply and sales of refurbished Philips/ADAC Nuclear Medicine Systems. BC Technical is focused on expanding its business model to include Siemens and GE to help budget-conscious healthcare facilities further contain costs, without sacrificing quality.

While ADAC Laboratories – the global leader in nuclear medicine equipment and service that was acquired by Philips Medical Systems in 1999 – has long been known for its quality, top-tier products, the high cost associated with Philips/ADAC’s service and parts was a key drawback for many customers. Recognizing the need for keeping healthcare costs down, BC Technical has been steadfastly committed to supplying superior service and parts at substantial savings from the original equipment manufacturer, with parts averaging 40% less than the OEM’s list price and an hourly labor rate that’s 43% less than the OEM’s. The majority of parts purchased by BC Technical are bought from the same sources as ADAC/Philips, and in most cases, carry a warranty that surpasses that offered by the OEM.
Our motto, “Affordable Excellence in Nuclear Medicine is achieved by our service and support, equipment, parts and partnerships,” said Chuck Hale, Sr., President, BC Technical. Also, he noted that the company is the only independent service organization that has national service and parts contracts with nearly two dozen asset management companies and OEMs’ multi-vendor services divisions.

BC Technical’s success can’t be boiled down to just price and partnerships, however. Its experienced, dedicated support infrastructure also made the company stand out amongst the competition. The 31 full-time field service engineers, whom work across the United States and are supported by five “Rapid Response” engineers in Salt Lake City, have given BC Technical the largest support infrastructure of any nuclear medicine ISO in the industry. In fact, no other nuclear medicine ISO offers national coverage, Hale pointed out.

“BC Technical’s premier infrastructure is the best in class,” he explained. “We provide a quality, driven support team with customer satisfaction being one of our top priorities. Affordable excellence in nuclear medicine is achieved by our service and support, equipment, parts and partnerships.”

A state-of-the-art facility also factors into that equation. What began as a home-based business has quickly and consistently grown into something much greater, thanks – in great part – to word-of-mouth referrals. By January 1997, BC Technical had already outgrown its home operations, being replaced by an 1,800 square foot building in Sandy, UT. Later that same year, the company required more square footage and found its new home in a 6,000 square foot facility. The business continued to flourish and in March of 2000 a more modern 13,000 square foot facility, complete with contiguous land for future expansion, was required to allow BC Technical to further expand and grow.

But the growth didn’t stop there. Early in 2005, with the increase in market demand and business opportunities, BC Technical purchased a three-year-old, 50,000 square foot building in West Jordan, allowing the company to increase its mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and refurbishment business. The facility houses space for parts inventory and distribution, component repair and equipment refurbishment. The additional space has also allowed BC Technical to further expand and modernize its repair operation, store more parts to strengthen its position in the marketplace, and open up additional manufactured lines besides ADAC/Philips – namely, Siemens.

With the urging of its national partners and demand from the marketplace, BC Technical will continue to expand into the GE Nuclear lines as well. “The company is also considering additional Nuclear Medicine Camera Systems, which will be leading technology,” noted Tim Henning, BC Technical’s executive vice president and general manager. Other strategic plans include expanding across North America, including into Canada, providing up-to-date, specialized training and hiring additional staff to meet increasing customer needs, he said.

Of course, BC Technical’s trademark quality in parts and service, along with its industry-leading parts warranty (120 days) and uptime guarantees, will remain at the core of the company’s growth and success.

“The challenge to meet the growing market and provide the best in service and quality is truly exciting to us at BC Technical,” noted Hale. “We are positioning ourselves to maintain our best in class status.”
