LaseR
Ventures begins its fourth year providing
laser rentals, new and pre-owned laser sales,
and purchasing of laser surplus equipment
from hospitals and surgery centers around
the country. In responding to the market's
demand, Lase'R Ventures is expanding its
services beyond Georgia and Texas to include
other southeastern states, such as Alabama,
Florida and Tennessee.
Lase'R Ventures continues to provide various
laser wavelengths to its rental customers,
including Holmium/Yag, CO2, KTP, ND:Yag,
Indigo and Pulsed-dye systems. With each
laser rental delivery, the company provides
a certified laser technician to operate
the laser and observe laser safety, fibers,
micromanipulators, microscope adapters,
protective eyewear and signage.
Often case volume may justify a laser purchase,
however, many facilities prefer the convenience
of laser rental services. First, Lase'R
Ventures provides six various laser wavelengths
which allows a hospital to offer all of
those lasers to its physicians. Secondly,
OR Directors have a difficult time keeping
their staff trained to operate lasers. With
Lase'R Ventures provision of certified laser
technicians, hospitals can utilize their
nursing staff in other capacities. Last,
but not least, maintenance issues are another
valid reason to rent lasers versus owning
them. After the standard one year warranty
on each new laser purchase expires, surgical
facilities are faced with continued maintenance
and service. With laser rental services,
there is no expense to the hospital until
there is a need for the equipment. Therefore,
it becomes a "turn-key" operation.
Sometimes an OR Director needs assistance
in evaluating whether laser rental is the
most economical solution for the surgical
facility. In the past few years, Lase'R
Ventures has assisted many managers with
their evaluations. If ownership is the best
solution, Lase'R Ventures provides both
new and preowned laser quotations to include
the best system availabe with all necessary
accessories, in-service training and service
contracts.
For those surgical facilities that own their
lasers, Purchasing departments are always
looking for ways to save costs. We offer
an alternative to OEM pricing for many laser
accessories. Lase'R Ventures sells high-quality
single-use and reusable bare fibers for
most Holmium /Yag laser systems, blast shields,
protective eyewear, hand pieces, micromanipulators,
couplers and adapters.
Lase'R Ventures has established a referral
base with several third party laser service
contractors for facilities owning their
laser equipment and considering an alternative
to OEM service for Preventive Maintenance
and annual service contracts. Some manufacturers
no longer service certain vintages or models
of lasers, whereas many third party vendors
have parts available and knowledge of the
older systems. Electing this option can
often save a hospital as much as 25% in
comparison to OEM charges, and often with
much faster response time.
Another challenge for facilities with lasers
ownership is continual education in laser
safety and physics for their staff. In answer
to that concern, LaseR Ventures customizes
on-site training courses according to the
need, whether a specific laser wavelength
or general laser safety physics is required.
Physicians often require training and certification
for new techniques for various procedures.
For expample, recently many Urologists have
expressed interest in comparing the utilization
of a Holmium laser versus a KTP laser system
for BPH (ablation of the prostate) procedures.
Lase'R Ventures is not biased to a manufacturer
of laser equipment; instead Lase'R Ventures
provides comparative information to physicians
so that they can decide which technique
they prefer. Although some doctors are laser-trained,
they often want "hands-on" training
for certain applications and procedures.
LaseR Ventures coordinates keynote
educators for Physician Procedure Certification
courses on a requisition basis.
Many facilites are not aware of the increase
in Medicare reimbursement for the BPH procedure.
Effective April 1, 2004, The US Medicare
average payments for holmium ablation of
the prostate procedure was increased to
$3,750 for Outpatient Facilities (compared
to $1,750 formerly) and $1,339 for Surgery
Centers. The US Medicare billing codes for
Outpatient Facilities are HCPCS C9713, APC
1525 and CPT 56248, ASC 9 for Surgery Centers.

laser rental services and sales to each

Operations and Sales Managers, laser technicians
