Katena Products
Flexible Iris Retractors

A miotic pupil is a commonly encountered complication in cataract surgery.  Should a small pupil remain unresponsive to routine topical agents, many surgeons advocate the use of flexible iris retractors to gently stretch and retain the iris for maximum visibility during the procedure. These bright blue micro retractors are only 10mm long and can be easily inserted through four evenly spaced limbal paracenteses. Once the iris is hooked and retracted, the surgeon slides the tiny adjustable silicone “donut” up to the limbus to secure the hook in place. To address varying OR requirements, Katena makes these retractors available in one of two options; a cost-effective reusable set with an autoclavable sterilizing case or as a disposable, sterile, single-use set. Contact Katena for distributor information.

Medtronic
Eraser™ Wet-Field® Specialty ElectroSurgery Instruments

These specialty Eraser™ instruments have been designed to provide the ophthalmic surgeon with the right tool for situations requiring precise hemostasis. Medtronic recently introduced a series of 25 gauge intraocular, bipolar, diathermy instruments. These instruments provide discrete treatment of target tissues for fine-tip hemostasis or controlled drainage retinotomy, without compromise in power delivery. The 25 gauge family includes straight, and curved 150º, and 135º designs. These curved products maximize tip visibility, instrument rotation, range of anterior reach, and approach to target tissue. Additional specialty products include straight and curved 20-23 gauge tapered instruments and 20 gauge hollow-core passive / active aspiration devices with reflux modalities - all with diathermy capability.

Tibolt Punctal Scissors

The Tibolt Punctal Scissors (K4-3130) facilitates an easier and more effective two-snip lacrimal punctoplasty. When performing this procedure with conventional scissors there is a tendency for the tips to slip off, rather than engage, the dense ring of fibroelastic tissue as the blades close. To address this problem, these scissors features a conical lower blade to support the punctal ring during approximation of the blades; a textured surface to immobilize the punctal ring as pressure of approximation builds and micro grooves to engage the punctal ring while cutting. These modifications produce an instrument that facilitates a simple and effective punctoplasty either in the clinic or at the time of DCR with stents.
