Preventative Maintenance — Why do we do, what we do? Do we know? |
|
|
Presented by: Dave Francoeur, V.P. Clinical Technology Services ARAMARK Healthcare;
Jim Fedele, Director Clinical Engineering Susquehanna Health System
Regulatory requirements, preventative maintenance, performance assurance, scheduled
inspections, risk base criteria, and evidencebased maintenance are criteria that
guide clinical equipment managers’ decisions on staffing and operations everyday.
The million-dollar question is, do any of these criteria positively affect patient care and safety? How do we know which devices will truly benefit from scheduled
interventions? Is there a different way of thinking that will help achieve better
outcomes and reduce the stress associated with fixed schedules? Attend this session
and be part of a discussion where as a group we will challenge the status quo. |

Measuring and Reporting Value |
|
|
Presented by: Karen Waninger, Director Clinical Engineering - Community Health Network
One of the most critical factors in our profession is the ability to effectively measure the value of what we do for our customers. Equally as important is the ability to communicate key pieces of information in a manner that will be correctly understood by the recipient. This session will describe types of “value” that can be represented by measurable information and will provide reporting examples and
templates as tools for the participants to use. |

How to Slash your Medical Equipment Maintenance Budget in 2010 |
|
|
Presented by: Patrick Lynch, CBET, CCE - Global Medical Imaging
Healthcare is in a financial crisis and capital acquisitions and projects are being delayed or cancelled. Layoffs abound. Pay is frozen. What do we do when our
administration is looking to us for any and all ways to squeeze budgets and expenditures?
Many of the traditional equipment service arrangements are not economically feasible
in these tough times. How do you reduce costs without reducing quality, dependability
or uptime? This session will present a new and innovative way to evaluate medical
equipment maintenance costs, provide a mechanism for comparing these costs to other
internal and external sources. We also will embark upon a discussion of how to reduce
these costs by more than half in many cases, while maintaining quality and uptime. |

Negotiating Skills for Service Agreements |
| |
Presented by: Myron Hartman, Program Coordinator, Biomedical Eng. Technology - Penn
State New Kensington
Creating a win-win relationship between a healthcare organization and a medical

process in developing, negotiating and finalizing the agreement are critical key
steps for both parties. This session will discuss some the skills, methods and tactics
used in the process of negotiating medical equipment service agreements. Participants
may be asked to participate and share examples (both positive and negative) in their
experiences in negotiating service agreements. |

We are a business in transition. Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) coupled with the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine standard (DICOM) have made highly efficient handling of medical images and patient data a reality. The key here is not the diminishing role of film, but rather the increases
in workflow efficiency and patient throughput. This session will present the advantages and pitfalls of PACS. |
